Everyone deserves the freedom of mobility. The Mercedes-Benz Motability scheme has helped 50,000+ customers with adaptations to make their cars more accessible.
Adaptations are changes to your Mercedes-Benz car which alter it to your needs, including help with driving, accessing the car and wheelchair and scooter storage.
We can guide you through your choices when it comes to adaptations, including which car features suit you best. These may include:
For drivers who have any difficulty with driving controls, there are loads of ways we can make your Mercedes-Benz easier to control.

Choose from accessibility, driving and stowage adaptations to make driving more convenient. Our Motability experts help you to choose which suit you best, as well as identifying compatible Mercedes-Benz cars.
Wheelchair or scooter users don’t necessarily have to get a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV.) Instead, an accessibility adaptation may do the trick. Some of these can even be swapped to your next Motability car.
Help wheelchair users in and out of the car with a transfer plate. They fit to the side of the car as extra support to help you go from wheelchair to car seat with ease. And they fold away when not in use too. They do require some upper body strength, with electric models available for added help.
If you need help getting in or out of the car, an electric person hoist can do all the heavy lifting. A canvas sling is used to transfer you in and out of the car, with the frame folding away to be stored in the boot when not in use. Not all Mercedes-Benz cars are compatible with an electric person hoist, so please get in touch to double-check.
Swivel seats add an adjustable surface that makes entering and exiting your car easier. They tilt, raise, lower and move side to side, with both electric and manual versions available. There are also models which attach directly to a wheelchair base, but they can’t be operated alone.
If you have difficulty with any of the driving controls, there are plenty of Motability adaptations for your Mercedes-Benz that can help. This includes accelerating, braking, steering and using the car’s instruments. Most of these do require an automatic transmission to work.
Hand controls make driving possible without the use of your legs. Push/pull devices fit on your steering wheel and are used for accelerating and braking. Hand control adaptations require an automatic transmission.
If you find using the steering wheel difficult, a steering aid can help. A steering wheel ball, for example, fits the wheel and makes turning it much easier.
For easy command of the lights, wipers and other systems, you can get an easy to use remote control device installed. It functions as a set of mounted controls operated by a single hand.
If you can’t operate a push/pull device, there are a few electronic accelerators to choose from. These devices fit to the front, back or side of your wheel and can be pushed or pulled to accelerate, depending on your needs.
Left foot pedals place the accelerator on the left of the brake pedal for those who have reduced mobility in their right leg. You can have a floor-mounted pedal that blocks off the original pedal or a twin-flip unit that folds away the right-hand accelerator for a nominated driver.
For those who can't fully reach the pedals, pedal modifications make accelerating and braking easier and more comfortable.
Lifting and storing your wheelchair or scooter is a heavy task. Stowage adaptations give you an added hand by loading, unloading and storing your mobility aid for you. And many of these can even be swapped to your next Mercedes-Benz Motability car.
Securely store your mobility aid in the boot with a car boot hoist. They make getting your wheelchair or scooter in and out of the car easier, storing it in the boot. Some boot hoists require more room than others.
If you need to keep your boot space clear for other items, you can get rooftop stowage. Simply fold away your wheelchair, place it in the electric hoist and it does the rest.
Add a lightweight manual wheelchair to your car so you don't have to transport yours wherever you go. They fold away to be stored in your car.
